Hassocks & Burgess Hill Pickleball Club had outgrown its original name and identity. While the club had built a strong and welcoming community, the existing branding felt tied to location rather than reflecting the wider personality, energy and values of the team. The goal was to create a new identity that felt more distinctive and meaningful – something that could grow alongside the club and strengthen its presence both on and off the court. Alongside the renaming process, the project also needed to establish a cohesive visual identity that could work across digital platforms, merchandise and wider club communications.
Working closely with the club, we developed a completely new brand identity – introducing Akita Pickleball.
The name was inspired by the Akita breed, chosen for the qualities it represents: loyalty, strength and respect. These values strongly reflected the culture and community the club had built over time, helping create a name with much deeper meaning and personality than the previous location-based identity.
We then designed a bespoke logo to capture both the spirit of the sport and the people behind the club. The swirling circular mark references the perforated pickleball used in the game, while also symbolising movement, energy and the collective community that makes the club what it is. The typography was carefully refined and customised to create a more distinctive identity, including bespoke curved detailing within the lettering to give the brand a softer sense of movement and individuality.
Alongside the core branding, we also designed artwork and graphics for a range of club merchandise, including sports tops, hoodies and water bottles, helping bring the new identity to life across both events and everyday club activity.
The rebrand has given Akita Pickleball a much stronger and more recognisable identity, helping move the club beyond its original location-based branding and towards something more scalable and community-driven. The new name and visual identity better reflect the energy, inclusivity and ambition of the club, while the merchandise and supporting brand assets have helped create a more cohesive and professional presence across the organisation.
